Japanese Camellia Oil

A best kept beauty secret of geisha girls has been revealed!

It’s the Japanese Camellia Oil! It is the reason for the soft smooth skin and the silky bouncy hair of the geisha for centuries, as well as the sleek samurai hair style hundreds years ago. This traditional beauty oil has been used as a hair care product that conditions, nourishes, and adds shine to hair by both women and men since Heian period (794 ~1185 AD) in Japan. It is also called ‘Eastern Olive Oil’ and has been used for hair care, skin care, cooking, medicine, industrial use, and etc.

In the 20th century, however, all natural Japanese Camilla Oil had been replaced by latest chemical hair care products. By the late 20th century, it became to be known as an old-fashioned, traditional hair care product or as a symbol of the granny’s bathroom.

Now that ecology conscious life style such as ‘Macrobiotics,’ ‘Lohas,’ and ‘Slow Life’ has become popular, Japanese Camellia Oil is getting attention again. The founder of Macrobiotics, George Osawa, has recommended that not only the foods but also the cosmetics should be all natural. He has suggested especially the use of Japanese Camellia Oil.

Because it repairs damaged hair worn out by perms and colorings, it is becoming popular among beauty & eco conscious Japanese women of 21st century by word-of-mouth.

The Japanese Camellia Oil:

  • is non-drying oil and won’t evaporate
  • contains over 85% of oleic acid which is similar to natural oil on our skin (sebum)
  • coats each damaged hair strand and seals moisture in
  • stops frizz and fuzz and flyaways, and gives shine, smoothness, softness
  • protects hair from heat and UV-B
  • prevents friction and static caused by brushing and blow drying
  • nourishes scalp
  • helps fight split-ends, grey hair, dandruff, and itching
  • stops and repairs hair loss by massaging it onto your scalp

Although the Japanese Camilla Oil is available from several brands, the one Miho has selected is 100% cold-pressed from the seed pod, thus more natural ingredients are retained and won’t be oxidized (longer shelf life). FYI, the cold pressed one keeps moisture 2.5 times as much as the one processed with heat! Also, since it is filtered 3 times, it is clear and odorless. Because it is so smooth, it easily penetrates hair and doesn’t get sticky (like other icky oils).

Examples of uses:

  • Before blow drying or heat styling, apply a few drops on your entire hair to protect from heat
  • For hair treated with Japanese straightening system and/or digital styling, after shampooing, spread a few drops of the oil on your hands, and apply to your wet hair. Then, finger-style your hair as you blow dry. A few more drops at the finish for the optimal shine and frizz-free definition of your straight/curled hair.
  • Add several drops to your shampoo and conditioner and wash your hair as you normally do.
  • Dilute the oil with water in the spray bottle. Shake well and spray onto your hair. Prevent frizz and fuzz and flyaway, and make your hair soft, smooth, and sleek.
  • Caution: Please don’t use too much because it IS oil! For best result, use only a few drops at a time.

This product can be used as a moisturizer for your hands and body and nail or as an after shave lotion (it kills germs!) for your face and legs and more. Also, it is good for grooming your pets.
